ARI’s History

Akron Radiology, Inc. (“ARI”) is an independently owned and physician led practice staffed by over 30 radiologists and 2 physician assistants. We are the exclusive provider of subspecialized radiology interpretation and interventional procedures at all Summa Health System, Western Reserve Hospital, Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, Summa Rehab Hospital and Neurology and Neuroscience Associates locations.

The practice was formed in 1990 by a small group of Radiologists serving Akron City Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital, which is now known as Summa Health System. Over the last 3 decades, Summa’s acquisitions and growth generated expansion of ARI with 24/7/365 services at the Health System’s 2 hospitals, 10 outpatient health centers, 5 emergency rooms, and 1 urgent care location.

A second affiliated company, called Northern Summit Radiology, LLC, was created in 2008 to accommodate newly acquired contracts with Western Reserve Hospital and Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic (see *) Center. Northern Summit Radiology was also staffed by ARI radiologists until 2012. At that time, the entity was closed and the contracts with Western Reserve and Crystal Clinic were transferred to the parent company Akron Radiology, Inc. ARI currently serves Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls and their Hudson outpatient location. ARI also serves Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Centers’ Hospital in Fairlawn and 9 outpatient locations offering imaging services.

In January 2018 ARI partnered with Neurology and Neuroscience Associates to provide subspecialized interpretations for their neuroradiology MRI studies.
